Reading Time:  2  minutes

Life moves fast. We get it. You buy a new car, and the excitement of hitting the road can push practical details like registration and insurance to the back burner. But here’s the thing: delaying these crucial steps not only causes headaches for you down the road—it can also lead to costly penalties and unnecessary frustration.

Recently, we’ve noticed more clients running into issues with the DMV because they’ve waited too long to get their vehicle registered or insured. Some have even asked us to intervene with the DMV to help them avoid late fees or lift a suspension. Unfortunately, that’s not something we’re able to do. We don’t have any special relationship with the DMV, and they won’t allow us—or any insurance agency—to expedite processes or remove penalties.

Why This Happens

It’s easy to see why this slips. Maybe you think, “I’ll get around to it,” or, “I’ll do it next week when I have more time.” But before you know it, weeks or even months pass, and that small to-do item becomes a costly problem. Life is busy—between family, work, and everything else on your plate, registration and insurance can fall through the cracks.

The Consequences of Waiting

Delaying registration or insurance comes with some real consequences:

1. **Late Fees & Suspensions** – If your registration lapses, the DMV isn’t shy about imposing fees or even suspending your registration. Once that happens, getting everything back in order can be a hassle.

2. **Financial Risk** – Without insurance, you’re driving uninsured, which leaves you and others at financial risk in the event of an accident.

What You Can Do

It’s simple: **don’t wait**. Once you buy a vehicle, get insurance and register it immediately. It might feel like one more thing on your to-do list, but trust me, knocking this out early saves you from major headaches and potential financial strain later.

So next time you or someone you know buys a car, take those extra few minutes to get it insured and registered right away. You’ll save yourself time, money, and frustration down the road.

As always, we’re here to help guide you through the insurance process, but remember, there’s nothing we can do to help expedite DMV issues once they arise. It’s best to handle it all up front and avoid the hassle altogether.
