Medi-Share is a healthcare sharing ministry for Christians who want a Biblical way to manage their healthcare. As a sharing ministry, Medi-Share is not health insurance, but an alternative. What makes it different?
Sharing with other members
Because Medi-Share is not insurance, it is not responsible for paying your medical bills. If you have an eligible medical bill that’s paid, it’s paid from fellow Medi-Share members’ monthly share dollars. Since 1993, 100% of eligible needs have been shared and $3.1 billion in medical needs have been shared and discounted.
Promotes a healthy, biblical lifestyle
Medi-Share members are Christians who agree to live by biblical standards, including:
- No use of tobacco or illegal drugs
- No abuse of legal drugs
- No sex outside of traditional Christian marriage
Furthermore, unlike health insurance, your share dollars will never be used for unbiblical procedures like abortion.
Pre-existing conditions
Recent changes to health insurance laws mean that insurance companies are required to insure those with pre-existing conditions. Since Medi-Share is not insurance, prospective members should be familiar with Medi-Share’s guidelines for pre-existing conditions to be eligible for sharing.
People, not profit
At a time when healthcare conglomerates seem increasingly focused on maximizing profits, Christian Care Ministry stands apart as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. This means the focus of Medi-Share is on people, not profit. Furthermore, as a member you have a voice when it comes to creating and amending the program guidelines.
Medi-Share was founded in 1993 as a way for Christians to share in each other’s burdens. Medi-Share is not health insurance but can be a great option for many people. In fact, the Affordable Care Act contains a provision for healthcare sharing ministries so that members are exempt from the mandate to purchase health insurance!
