Medi-Share is a great way for Christians to share each other’s burdens when unexpected medical expenses occur. However, some questions arise when considering a program like this for you or your family. One of these issues is pre-existing conditions. How does Medi-Share treat pre-existing conditions?
Medi-Share was originally designed to assist in medical bill sharing for new or unexpected conditions. However, Medi-Share guidelines have parameters that allow some pre-existing conditions to be eligible for sharing. These parameters include the length of time without signs of the condition or the length of time actively sharing as a Medi-Share member.
The amount that can be shared with a Medi-Share member each year for a pre-existing condition is as follows:
Up to $100,000 per year if:
- The condition has gone 36 months without signs, symptoms, treatment, or medication OR
- The member has been faithfully sharing for 36 months
Up to $500,000 per year if:
- The condition has gone 60 months without signs, symptoms, treatment, or medication OR
- The member has been faithfully sharing for 60 months
Say you’re thinking about joining Medi-Share but are concerned that a previous condition would not be eligible. If you haven’t been treated, taken medication, or shown any symptoms for the condition for at least three years, you may be eligible for sharing with some limits!
In addition, high blood pressure or cholesterol that’s controlled through lifestyle or medication is not considered a pre-existing condition for purposes of determining eligibility of future vascular events, such as a stroke or heart attack.
