I know for me, the intention is always there to save money, but life happens. I sometimes used to find myself scraping by as the end of the month approached. I wanted to share some quick tips to help you put some money away to make sure that isn’t the case this month, or in the months to come.

1. Cut the cord.

I stopped using cable a long time ago. It saved me about $50 per month, and allowed me to allocate this money to a savings account. I mean, who watches QVC anymore when you have Amazon? Cable TV is quickly becoming an overpriced thing of the past. Instead, I use Hulu and Netflix and have never looked back! If you’re not doing so already, I encourage you to check out their free first month trials to really evaluate how much you could save by switching entertainment providers.

2. Reevaluate your phone plan.

Your cell phone plan could be killing your budget. I recently helped a couple paying almost $240 each month for a cell phone plan. They had carried over a ton of data and were not even coming close to what they were paying for. They changed their plan, cut their payment in half, and still had more data then they needed. Take the time to step back and look at what you really use versus what you’re actually paying for.

3. Try an electricity time of use plan.

I didn’t realize how much money a time of use plan (SRP) would save me, until I actually tried it. These plans generally use less electricity between 1-8 pm. On average, I have saved about $50 a month on the hot summer months here in Arizona. This has been a huge help in cutting costs for us. Big shout out to my wife for being a champ with this, especially with two non-stop energetic boys!

4. Sell old stuff.

We all have it—a pile of old stuff in the house to get rid of. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Like Dave Ramsey say, “No sense in keeping up with the Jones’, they’re broke.” Getting rid of things you no longer need will not only bring in extra cash, it could help your neighbor find a great bargain!

What are some of the ways that you have found to save a few extra bucks a month? We’d love to hear your feedback!
