I’m not into polygamy. I think you should only be married to one thing, your husband or wife.
Yet, many people I know seem to be married to their insurance company too.
I don’t just mean loyalty. Loyalty is where you look to your company for a quote on your new motorcycle first before you look elsewhere. No, I mean that they are in a relationship with their insurance company that lasts longer than many marriages. I call this insurance attachment syndrome. And it’s not good.
Of course, if it’s not broken, why fix it, right?
But what if your insurance company is charging you $500 or $600 a year more than another company, for the same coverage?

I knew someone once who had been with the same insurance company for decades. At some point early in his life, he had a claim, and they took good care of him. He never forgot them. He wouldn’t switch no matter how much money I suggested he could save.
Unfortunately, they forgot about him. Years later, he filed a couple of claims. The company decided he was too costly after that, and dumped him cold, leaving him uninsured and his assets unprotected. After that, he became my customer.
There are a lot of good things to be attached to, through good times and bad times, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health. Your family. Your friends. Your community. Your baseball team (yes, I’m a Cubs fan. *sigh*).
Your insurance carrier is not on that list. Don’t get caught with insurance attachment syndrome.
